7002-320. J.L. SHOEMAKER & CO. print holder. That's what the tag says but I've never seen anything like it. Shoemaker was a bookbinding and leather supply company in Philadelphia in the late 19th century so the tag is likely correct. Consists of a 5" wood handle and a 9" x 4" brass head, clearly marked on the front, with brass thumbscrew that controls the jaws to open and close, presumably to adjust to the width of the prints. Some tarnish to brass and a few dings on wood, but unusual and in nice shape. Good 50-100
