Made only for 11 years from 1877-1888, this is one of Stanley's rarer planes. The soft wood has some dinging as usual and the steel has surface oxidation but no pitting, but the mouth has not been opened up, as so many of them were, and the patent date and Stanley mark are clear. Patented Christmas Day, 1951 by Wilbert Dohmeyer of Crete, IL, and manufactured by RM Rumbold company. Lacquer is worn on the knobs but metal clean. Not that old but very unusual. Part of the line of Bailey-style planes manufactured by Marples from the 1930s through the 1960s, with its distinctive scalloped wooden locking lever on the lever cap. Nickel plated version. The good news - it has the bullnose attachment and good nickel plated filletster. The bad news - one of the arms on the fence has broken. A prior owner brazed it but it has broken loose. Either replace the fence or break out the J.B. Weld; the rest of it is very clean. From the collection of Cecil Holmes. Good- (CHS254) 100 - 200
