Two examples of Robert Ellrich's 1884 patent ratcheting mechanism with the "flip-out" pawls; originally classified "NS" by Pearson, and still uncommon. Both made by P S & W, one has Peck & Power's 1879 patent chuck rosewood head with babbit bearings and rosewood grip, 10" sweep, the other has H.V.
