7003-120 J. CHAPPELL pump log plane. Chappell was listed in the 1839 Pittsburgh, PA, directory as a planemaker and his planes are fairly uncommon. This is his A mark, 4 stars. Plane 14" long with attached fence and apprentice hole at toe. 2-1/2" cutter has faint mark long worn off. Wood has significant age damage including checks, heavy chewing at toe, tip of tote broken off, wedge chewed, some staining. Sole is still in good shape, however. Still, a decent example of an uncommon plane. Good 60-120 (JCI594)
