photo 6703-001 PHILLIPS patent plow plane. The third version of the Phillips patent with no maker marked on the skate and rosewood tote three-eighth inch cutter. See PTAMPIA I page 86 -left. Traces of japanning rust and light pitting tote has crack near bottom wood has some dinging. Good- 150-300 DCR87
photo 6703-002 STANLEY Bedrock No. 608 jointer. Mix of Type 3 and Type 4 as frog has B cast mark but no patent dates on lateral early SRandL Bedrock lever cap with B casting mark and Patent Apl cutter. Japanning 80 percent a few dings and nicks to wood. Good 100-200 DOR1001
photo 6703-003 STANLEY No. 113 circular plane. Type 1 body and knobs but cutter and frog are not a Type 1. Worn rusty with 60 percent japanning lever cap screw has good nickel but the others have traces of plating. Could clean up into a nice user. Good 35-70 OVR89
photo *6703-004 STANLEY No. 5C jack plane. Faint sweetheart mark on cutter notched rectangle lever cap only April patent date behind frog. Tall knob has a few cracks at base tote ok other than a chip off side of tip japanning 80 percent with some paint specks and rust. Good 20-40 GRN
photo 6703-005 MILLERS FALLS No. 714 Buck Rogers jack plane. The name Buck Rogers was first applied to this line of planes introduced in 1950 as a complete redesign of the traditional bench plane design with knob and tote made of unbreakable tenite thermoplastic larger frog area and ergonomic design. Although modestly labeled by MF the finest planes in the world they didnt catch on. This example is marked Pat Pending on cheek next to model number some rust and wear to knob and tote japanning 80 percent. Sole has some paint lever cap and adjustment knob have 80 percent nickel plating. Good- 60-120 LEE100
photo 6703-006 STANLEY No. 10 carriagemakers plane. Japanning 90 percent later type with kidney lever cap and notched rectangle Made in USA mark faint on cutter. Throat ok cutter has a few nicks. Good 30-60 BWH39
photo 6703-007 STANLEY No. 10-one-half bench rabbet plane. Japanning 85 percent B casting mark in bed behind the frog and number cast in front of the tote notched rectangle mark on cutter and plain lever cap. Knob has some dings tote looks cleaner and may be replaced pitting to metal and very shallow nick in throat. Good 75-150 RBN365
photo 6703-008 Lot of two STANLEY scrub planes. A No. 40 with sweetheart mark on cutter hardwood handles with lacquer starting to crackle repainted. And a No. 40-one-half vee mark cutter has a little bit of life left japanning 75 percent wood fairly worn. Good- 30-60 BWH44 48
photo *6703-009 SARGENT No. 418 fore plane. Has VBM cutter and lever cap knob and tote have wear and chips off tip of tote surface rust on metal traces of japanning a few spots of white paint. Cutter sharp would clean up into a nice user. Good 20-40 PTL58

Similar to Figure 210 in PTAMPIA I in jointer size. 20-one-half inch sole with adjustable throat faucet handle style cutter adjustment stamped on one cheek iron knob. photo 6703-011 STANLEY No. 57 core box plane. Has Trauts patent on body J mark on cutter plating 75 percent with a little surface rust. One set of extensions with S casting marks missing turnbuckle and replaced with solid rod. Wood has light wear tote a little loose. Good 75-150 LHS0094

photo 6703-013 STANLEY No. 80 steel cased rabbet plane. Mouth has been opened slightly at the bed but much less than most No. 80s. Wood has wear missing spur some pitting to metal. Good- 50-100 REW677
photo 6703-014 Lot of two STANLEY corrugated sole bench planes. A No. 3C with sweetheart mark on cutter tall knob one patent date behind frog notched rectangle lever cap. And a No. 4C with T mark on cutter three patent dates behind frog plain lever cap. Both have 90 percent japanning and touched up in a few spots totes have dinging and reglued crack on No. 3 both have cracks at base of knobs spots of surface rust. Good 30-60 SAN135 142
photo 6703-015 STANLEY No. 239 dado plane. Has proper fence and japanning 80 percent. Some surface rust missing spur cutter and has replacement cutter from what looks like a slitter so cuts one-sixteenth inch. Good- 35-70 LEE80
photo *6703-016 BEESE and SCHMIDT horn plane. German cutter marked with Engelke angel mark and number 45 plane has partial decal. Generally clean with some flaking of lacquer on cutter. Good 20-40 LHS135
photo 6703-017 Stop chamfer plane. British style with a sole box -see Whelan pg. 147- beech unsigned nicely made with I. Sorby cutter. Good 50-100 HNL658
photo 6703-018 MANDER and DILLIN patented stop chamfer plane. Philadelphia planemakers who were issued patent No. 314338 on 3-24-85 for an improved chamfer plane. The patent is rated R2 -fewer than 25 examples- in Blanchard and Larson and the toe is marked with A mark -2 stars- unmarked cutter some wear to wood chips at throat and stain on one cheek. User stamps. Good 75-150 JCI77
photo 6703-019 Lot of two side hand rail planes. See Whelan p. 373. Both left handed several user stamps but one name appears on both of them. WARD irons cut 1-one-half ogee and 2 inch ogee-bevel. Some wear and chips to wood filletster fences work ok ogee iron heavily rusted at top. Good 40-80 GAN136G

photo 6703-021 MOSELEY and SON wooden mitre plane. 11-five-eighth inch long beech body low angle 2 inch WARD cutter vertical boxwood block in front of throat. Wear to wood and a few light stains tight cracks in sole at corners of throat. Good 50-100 GAN5594

Barnes worked in Worcester England in the first half of the 19th century. 12 inch long beech body low angle 2-one-fourth inch cutter has illegible mark and pitting boxwood block at throat has chipping on top as well as chipping in sole at throat. Scratching and age checks in wood looks polished. Good 40-80 LHS062
photo 6703-023 Lot of two wooden mitre planes. One is by EDWARDS of Manchester other unmarked. Both 12 inches long but Edwards has slightly taller body and 2-three-eighth inch MOULSON BROS cutter other has 2-one-fourth inch unmarked cutter. Both with good boxwood blocks at front of throat. Unmarked one is mostly clean with good sole Edwards has cracks at throat and some inactive worm in sole user names on both. Good 60-120 GAN5595 5596

Both unmarked with 4-one-half inch bodies one with slightly compassed sole and three-eighth inch GREAVES cutter other has one-half inch cutter with hole in center of it and Presented by Wm. G. photo 6703-027 Early elaborate crown molder. Unmarked but cuts 3-one-half inch wide ogee-bevel-ogee pattern with integral fence. Offset tote has chipped end body has large age checks and a few chips rope hole at toe unmarked cutter spalled at one corner on cutting end. Definitely early likely American. Good- 40-80 GFR8
photo 6703-028 A. CUMINGS handled cornice plane. A mark 3-one-half inch wide body with 3 inch ogee bevel cutter marked JAMES CAM. Single boxing has a crack or two chips in sole at toe and throat rope hole. Tote has some chipping and stains. Good- 45-90 GFR25

B mark from this 1791-1820 MA maker 6 inch wide body with 5 inch unmarked ogee cutter tote has tip broken off age checks rope hole with what looks like square nails in front of it on either side of body. One by EASTERLY and CO -2 stars- with 2-one-eighth inch MOULSON BROS cutter stamped Mechanics Inst. on both cheeks some staining and wear. photo 6703-034 Lot of four combination squares. Makers are DUNLAP UNION STARRETT and one with rusty rule so cant tell any markings. Starrett is 2-three-fourth inch size on 6 inch rule others are 4 inch sizes on 12 inch rules. Union has been painted blue vials intact unmarked one is missing vial endcap moderate wear on all. photo 6703-035 Lot of five try squares. Four unmarked with 9 inch 7-one-half inch and 6 inch edges all with rosewood handles with trefoil escutcheons rust and moderate pitting on all. Plus an uncommon 4 inch by WARD and FLETCHER with very faint mark on handle but looks like the D mark -4 stars- trefoil escutcheon rosewood handle discoloration and light pitting on metal. photo 6703-037 STANLEY No. 1 try and mitre square. Stanley called several squares the No. 1 but this is the one based on Winterbottoms patent with the 45° angle to let it be used as a mitre square. Type 1 with the iron framed walnut handle and lead-filled rivets marked with patent dates. 6 inch blade clean user name on handle. Good plus 40-80 PRK341

One is a sweetheart damage to pins and pinholes light wear to wood and other missing pins also with light wear. And a No. 82 board scale rule one pin worn and other missing some damage to pinholes wear and a stain on scales small chip on inside end light tarnish to brass. And a 3-foot four-fold No. 66-three-fourth moderate wear and scratching one pin worn and other gone brass tarnished. Good- 60-120 LBD58 60 71 75
photo 6703-045 Lot of four rules. A CHAPIN-STEPHENS No. 78-one-half brassbound 2-foot four-fold light wear and tarnish. A STEPHENS and CO. 2-foot six-fold faint mark some stains and wear two pins missing. An uncommon I and D SMALLWOOD No. 5 button caliper rule 3 inches with caliper ruled in one-fourth0 inch increments super clean with only a little flaking on brass. And a STANLEY No. 69 one-foot four-fold unfortunately one arm has broken off but present. Plus were throwing in a 3 inch brass STARRETT TOOLS tag clean. Good- and better 60-120 GAN

One with significant staining slight wear on inside and good pins other has some yellowing and missing pins. Plus a STANLEY No. 92-one-half 1-foot four-fold significant wear on outside crack through one arm inside has mild yellowing loose hinge ok pins. photo 6703-051 STANLEY No. 903 tool chest. Inside decal 95 percent and some yellowing no outside decal. Does not have any original tools but does have Stanley Handyman drill saw and block plane several hammers including Stanley claw and ball peen plus one labeled The Bird aluminum combination hammer. A couple are miniature or jewelers hammers. A few screwdrivers including Yankee and a Stanley combination plane screwdriver a Stanley combination square a FRAY tool handle with bits scratch awl a couple zig zag rules and more. Box itself has a few checks in wood and looks relacquered some wear. Good 100-200 RBN

photo 6703-061 Lot of three handsaws. Two by DISSTON a 27-one-half inch long No. 12 with good etch Disston-Phila medallion horn has some wear and user initials good nib 9tpi. And a 29 inch No. D-8 with thumbhole handle that is fairly damaged with break in bottom by horn and top horn is missing surface rust but etch readable 4-one-half tpi. Plus a 26 inch ATKINS No. 51 with very nice decorative carvings on handle though not quite as floral as Ive seen before moderate surface rust but slightly cleaned around etch. Handle has a few dings and light wear 8 tpi. Good- and better 40-80 GFR72 74 91

photo 6703-064 BAY STATE SAW WORKS MFG CO dovetail saw. Bay State was a small sawmaker acquired by SIMONDS and used to mark Simonds second-tier saws. Steel backed 8 inch etch mostly legible looks like a No. 98 but hard to tell. Sharpened a few times. Closed handle has light wear and may be relacquered. Good 30-60 BFS354

Handle wood is heavily worn especially on one side with horns broken and worn down user name stamped several times into brass backing. Good- 100-200 LEE127A

Laminated handle looks similar to pruning saw handles and has Disston and Sons medallion chips near medallion and on horns wear to edges. 16-one-half inch blade has curved back no visible etch pititng 10tpi. These look like a pair owned by the same maker as both have a large B carved into body. Howell has 2-one-fourth inch unmarked cutter and croze has one-eighth inch cutter held by iron plate and large flat thumbscrew. Both have nice patina and wear marks on body from use hangholes cutter on howell slightly spalled but sharp edge and body a little loose from the fence but nothing that tightening of screws probably cant fix. And a 6 inch with adjustment nut wood handle fairly clean. Two bicycle wrenches with center adjustment nut a 4-one-fourth inch one by BILLINGS and SPENCER with faint mark nickel plating near complete user name and 6 inch one marked SHELLEY likely made in England with a few dings. Plus a WALDEN-WORCESTER wrench patented in 1909 also by Frederick Walden -Schulz No. 150- this is the square nut version. Nickel ok stamped with patent date. And an unbreakable multi-tool with combination quick-adjust wrench hammer and pry-bar covered by a 1954 design patent and manufactured by the G.M.
