6603-001 6603-001 FRANKLIN patented surfacing plane. Patented by George Franklin of Natick MA for the specific purpose of truing up cobblers die blocks. This version has a closed tote -a little loose- and a wooden fence with iron sole - most versions have an open tote and solid iron fence. 15 inch long all original with chips to the tote edge- a serious hunk of iron and good example of an uncommon patented special purpose plane. 6603-002 6603-002 Shoot board plane. Cast iron 16 inch x 2 inch with offset integral iron handle. 1- one half inch Buck Bros. cutter pitted secured by cap iron with hand forged wingnut. Early and well made. Good plus REW279 100 200 photo
6603-003 6603-003 Bench plane. Unsigned. Resembles a British infill with a rosewood bun in the heel but also has an unusual bulbous turned rosewood knob and an 1- three-fourths inch Buck Bros. cutter. Cast iron body 9- one-half inch sole separate cast iron frog pinned to sole. Big chunk out of mouth and some wear at heel. Unusual and early. Good REW280 100 200 photo

6603-005 6603-005 STANLEY No. 50 combination plane. Type 5 with decorative metal tote patent date and B casting mark on both body and fence. Plating 80 percent one cutter missing depth stop. Good HOO17 40 80 photo

6603-007 6603-007 MILLERS FALLS No. 714 Buck Rogers jack plane. The name -Buck Rogers- was first applied to this line of planes introduced in 1950 as a complete redesign of the traditional bench plane design with knob and tote made of -unbreakable- tenite thermoplastic larger frog area and ergonomic design. Although modestly labeled by MF -the finest planes in the world- they did not catch on and are highly coveted by collectors. This one is an early type in nice condition with a small spot of grey paint missing behind the frog but 99 percent elsewhere a few small dings on the knob light rust and pitting. Marked Pat. 6603-008 6603-008 Lot of two STANLEY No. 39 dado planes. one half inch and five-eighths inch sizes. Both with unmarked cutters sweetheart marks on screwcaps and all parts present except for one screw on side spur of five-eighths inch. 6603-010 6603-010 STANLEY No. 39 dado plane. 1 inch size unmarked cutter Type 3 casting but has Type 2 Stanley circle logo on screwcap japanning 80 percent all parts present. A few spots of rust on blade otherwise pretty clean. Good DOR220 40 80 photo
6603-011 6603-011 STANLEY No. 49 swinging fence tongue and groove plane. More scarce than the No. 48 this one has 85 percent of its nickel plating a few tarnish spots but nothing major has number 97 stamped in body behind cutter that looks original as well as what looks like 98 and 33 stamped on each lever cap which may or may not be original. 6603-012 6603-012 STANLEY No. 48 swinging fence tongue and groove plane. Nickel plating 90 percent fishscale pattern on handle one screwcap has sweetheart mark and other is plain. Front screw near knob has semicircle Stanley and -Made in USA- on it. One cutter is replacement as it is slightly wider user initials stamped into inside of fence. Knob has light wear. 6603-013 6603-013 RECORD No. 04- one half smoothing plane. Nickel plating on lever cap near complete cutter good with very light surface rust at top tall knob and tote have slight crackling of lacquer. Japannning 80 percent and looks original however a blue paint splotch on the frog screw and on tote makes me think there may have been retouching. Tote also has some red paint drips at base and partial original decal on top. Some discoloration on sole but nothing major. Good GAN5270 40 80 photo

6603-016 6603-016 Type 1 STANLEY No. 113 circular plane. Has proper knobs adjustment wheel cutter has proper mark but only has one screw. Japanning 80 percent surface rust on about half of body nickel plating 80 percent. Cutter sharp. This is the second plane I have seen in the last few months -first was Brown 49 Lot 363- that has a star shape punched in both dovetail lugs and also has a break in one of the lugs in the same exact spot. 6603-017 6603-017 STANLEY Bedrock No. 604- one half smoother. Type 6 with vee mark on cutter flat top sides and single word Bedrock on lever cap tall knob. 6603-018 6603-018 User made bullnose plane. Someone took a bench plane likely a No. 3 sized one and cut off the front at the throat to make it a bullnose and reshaped the top of the cheeks slightly. Has unmarked cutter likely repurposed Union lever cap unmarked lateral and plane bed. Crack in sole at throat japanning and tote ok. Good ESY79 40 80 photo
6603-019 6603-019 STANLEY No. 2 smoothing plane. Later type with orange notched rectangle on lever cap and notched mark on cutter. Tall knob worn on top and missing large chunk out of back base tote has repaired break nickel plating 65 percent cutter sharp throat ok japanning 80 percent. Some surface rust and light pitting. 6603-021 6603-021 STANLEY No. 112 cabinet scraper. Earlier type metal in decent shape with a few spots of rust here and there japanning 85 percent. One with the vee-shaped MF logo traces of red japanning on lever cap but mostly there on frog number 302 stamped behind frog in the bed lacquer on rosewood knob and tote crackling and chip off end of tote knob screw looks replaced spots of rust cutter has small chip. And one with straight MF logo on cutter with Greenfield Mass and Made in USA underneath also has rosewood knob and tote in ok condition red japanning 85 percent some pitting to metal. 6603-025 6603-025 Lot of two No. 3 sized planes. A Type 13 STANLEY No. 3 with tall knob japanning 90 percent replacement cutter marked only -Made in USA- and has wrong lever cap tote and knob have light wear but ok some pitting and rust. 6603-026 6603-026 LIE-NIELSEN No. 140 skew block plane. Pretty sure that is what this is but at the toe where normally the L-N is cast it is been milled out. Identical to the No. 140 has both the steel side plate and brass fence light use and wear but nothing major. Version without the nicker. 6603-027 6603-027 English STANLEY No. 92 rabbet plane. Nickel plating near mint however has a small amount of white gunk on heel toe and edge of cutter that can likely be easily cleaned has decal on toe. One tiny spot of rust. Looks barely used. Good plus GAN255G 30 60 photo
6603-028 6603-028 PRESTON No. 2509 bullnose rabbet plane. Adjustable version of Prestons rabbet with removable nose 3-seven-eighths inch sole with 1-one-eighths inch cutter. Nickel plating 85 percent a few spots of tarnish small chip in one cheek but throat and cutter are very good. Could use a cleaning but still has plenty of life left. Good plus GAN159G 45 90 photo

The No. 99 is early type with patent date on skate but unmarked cutter nickel plating 75 percent the No. 98 looks like a Type 2 with no date on skate but has -T- mark on cutter nickel plating 70 percent. 6603-038 6603-038 Cornice plane. 4 inch lying ogee profile. Good tote and pull rope hole. Has two stamps on the toe one is user and other is faint but looks like maybe P.H. Three which appear to be part of a set with the same Multiform Plane Co and 8-29-54 patent date stamped on toes and brass flower screw in heels that lock the brass blade holders depicted in his later 5-27-56 patent. Two look like a tongue and groove pair both with moving fence and the other is a moving filletster. Filletster has screw hole at rear of body where something looks like it used to be attached side of fence has some damage at screws looks like depth stop missing single boxing has crack. This one has the Canterbury stamp as well as user stamps brass plate and thumbscrew on top near the toe adjusts iron depth stop. 8 inch compassed sole 2 inch SORBY cutter some mild scratching and staining a few cracks along brass plate. 6603-044 6603-044 Lot of four transitional planes. A 22 inch long B Plane from BIRMINGHAM PLANE CO. tote end broken off some wear and chips relacquered. Two 15 inch long one by FULTON and a UNION No. 26 Fulton has crack in tote and wood looks relacquered Union has a couple checks in wood. 6603-045 6603-045 Lot of four transitional bench planes. What looks like a STANLEY No. 26 but the wood base may be replacement as it is taller and slightly longer than usual with a tighter throat. Type 13 with 1909 mark on cutter. Plus UNION No. 26 and No. 27 both look relacquered with japanning 50 percent on the No. 27 and touched up on the No. 26. Three-star Maine maker circa 1850 this 22 inch lignum vitae bodied plane has a nice stripe of sapwood running through it that gives the appearance of being laminated from its side. Beautifully made and in nice condition noting some age checks 1-seven-eighths inch BUCK BROS. cutter with MOULSON chip breaker. Area in front of throat looks to be made of oak with wood pegs beech handle in nice condition but has chip off end and could be replacement. A few small chips in edges and wedge. 6603-048 6603-048 ATKINSON panel raiser. 1829-1842 Baltimore maker -A mark 2 stars- mark is faint 3 inch wide skew BUTCHER cutter both fences work fine with mild chipping end of tote missing and smoothed over repair to chip in mouth where wedge meets light chewing on wedge dings on heel and chip in body at top of toe. The heel and toe of the Sandusky are well dinged and the cutter slightly spalled. Plus a 7 inch toothing plane H. CHAPIN UNION FACTORY with proper AUBURN TOOL CO. toothed cutter. A 4 inch compassed sole with 1 inch cutter a 4- one-fourth inch double rabbet plane with one cutter missing a nearly 5 inch long one with heart shaped throat and 1- one-fourth inch straight cutter. Plus three with side fences nailed on all hollows two with decoratively carved teardrop shaped throats and one has tin wrapped around inside of fence. The pride of Germany and one of the best wooden planes being made it will run you well over $100 new. This one looks gently used with a few spots of green paint and some rust on the cutter. 6603-054 6603-054 Lot of two rabbet planes. A coachmakers T-rabbet solid boxwood sole is 6 inch x 2- one-fourth inch tight crack in body hole drilled in sole three user stamps. And a half-rabbet in which the cutter extends across half the sole but with no fence or stop also 6 inch made of a creamy wood that might be boxwood or possibly hornbeam. Unsigned. A fluting plane that cuts a single one-fourth inch flute by EAGLESHAM AND FOTHERINGHAM of Edinburgh 3-five-eighths inch sole and an unsigned plane with an angled sole probably for cutting dovetails although it has no fence with a skewed cutter and boxed sole. 6603-062 6603-062 CHAPIN-STEPHENS No. 036 inclinometer rule. Invented by L.C. Stephens in 1858 and sold by Chapin-Stephen for many years before it became the Stanley No. 36. Some wear and staining on bodies. Plus a mortise gauge with brass sliding fence ebony body and head cast iron flat locking screw marked with user name several times. 6603-069 6603-069 SHOLL patent mortise gauge. The four-bar version of Christian Sholls 1864 patent. This was the high-end model rosewood with two brass strips in the head. 6603-070 6603-070 JOHN WILSON mortise gauge. Ebony body with round head and square stem brass strips in head and screw-adjusted slides for mortise point English-style locking screw. Extremely faint Wilson Sheffield mark with -Corporate Mark- stamped underneath. Some light wear and dinging repaired chip on underside of head user mark on stem. Handle has a couple stains and checks a few chips at the end. Plus an open type also unmarked 5 inch edge nicely turned 5 inch handles with some wear and staining especially near brass ferrules. 6603-138 6603-138 Lot of two double edged spokeshaves. First is a BONNEYs patent early version with -Tueles Pat Oct 27 63 inch stamped -partial- on bottom of shave as shown on pg.183 in Lamonds book. Lamond discusses that a number of unknowns surround who manufactured this spokeshave how Melzer Tuells name was misspelled on the stamp or why it came to be known as Bonneys patent. Designed with a triangular blade so that it may be used on both sides this one has plain undersides of the handles unlike some examples that are stamped -PAT- or -PAT-63 inch on the underside. Shows very light use some spots of pitting but mostly clean one screw is smaller and may be a replacement. All the rest have a variety of handle types but most look the same one has large chip rest have variety of wear. There is a crack in the cheek where the blade peeks out which is a common occurance and repair on badger planes. George Mosher was a Stanley employee who ripped off the basic Bailey design changed it just enough to get his own patent and started the Birmingham Plane Co. which became better known for its T-shaped rabbet planes. These are No. 3 and No. 4 size planes and these so-called -B Planes- marked with -B Plane Co- and the patent date were manufactured only for a couple of years and are fairly uncommon. Both have B. Plane patent marks on cutters No. 3 has twisted end lateral adjuster where No. 4 is straight wear and chips off end of totes knobs have light dinging japanning 85 percent on both some black gunk on side of frog and blade on the No. 3 size that can probably be cleaned off scratching and spots of light pitting on some of the body.
